Application and data model
One Django codebase and one data model replacing the separate services.
Prime Alley
Prime Alley's AI-powered business workspace, rebuilt from a sprawl of microservices into one application that is faster to change and cheaper to run.
Prime Alley's business workspace is the AI-powered web application behind business.primealley.com.
It began as a set of PHP Laravel microservices and was rebuilt as a single Django application, giving the team one codebase, one data model and a much simpler path from idea to release.
Scope
One Django codebase and one data model replacing the separate services.
Sign-in and user management handled inside the app.
Docker, Nginx and PostgreSQL on fewer machines.
Highlights
The workspace was split into many Laravel services, mainly so developers wouldn't step on each other. Services called each other in chains, every request went through one gateway that forwarded it on, debugging across services didn't work, and it needed several machines, even though all the data was linked.
How we solved it
Made the case to leadership with a concrete list of the design's flaws, then consolidated everything into a single Django application on Docker, Nginx and PostgreSQL.
